The Sarovar Premiere, Bodhgaya, is a uniquely located, luxury hotel in the region. Spread across 4.5 acres, its lavish courtyards and water bodies welcome Buddhist pilgrims and visitors from India and across the globe. We designed signage for the complex, and a mandala installation in the lobby. Each complemented the architecture and materiality of the place, to create an immersive Buddhist experience that quietly permeates the site. The amenities of the hotel were according to the cardinal directions associated with the 5 Dhyani Buddhas and the Vajradhatu Mandala - both important concepts in Buddhist practice and theology. These amenities were named based on the five wisdoms of Buddhism, ‘Abhaya’, ‘Bhumisparsha’, ‘Dhyana’, ‘Dharmachakra’ and ‘Varada’.

The mudras, with their intrinsic characteristics represented the 5 amenities in the resort - Abhaya for the reception, Bhumisparsha for the pool court, Dhyana for the pool, Dharmachakra for the entertainment center and Varada for the living areas.

The symbology associated with the mudras were carved into stone, and the graceful mudras themselves were cast in copper for the signages with each amenity.

We created interpretive installations based on the 5 Vajradhatu Mandalas and their intrinsic properties.
