Brief:
The town of Dharmaj is well-known as one of the richest ‘villages’ in India. With a large number of families settled overseas, the town has many old ‘havelis’ or mansions of exquisite architectural beauty that have fallen to disrepair and decay.
The Avichal Foundation, based in Dharmaj, focuses on engaging locals and helping them understand the value of their built heritage. With this aim, they have initiated a heritage walk through the town to raise awareness about conservation.
We designed a heritage map of the map, which documents the main landmarks of the town and their history for the participants of the walk.
The map was published in large volumes for distribution during the popular ‘Dharmaj Day’ celebrations in the town, which attracts expatriates from across the world who have roots in Dharmaj. The map became a means to promote the heritage walk and the idea of heritage conservation amongst the locals and visitors and also acted a memorable souvenir of the visit and celebrations.
